The foundations of Afyon Kocatepe University were laid in 1974 with the faculties established under Anadolu University, and it became an independent university in 1992. As of 2021, Afyon Kocatepe University (AKU) hosts 32,124 students, of which 1540 are foreign students.
AKU aims at the development of individuals and their success in their professions, with the value it gives to students and the opportunities it provides. In addition to academic education for students, it organizes various events, symposiums, seminars, and scientific congresses, and increases students' knowledge.
Why Afyon Kocatepe University?
The main campus has facilities where students can meet all their needs without having to go to the city center.
It is located very close to the thermal springs of the city, which is the center of thermal tourism.

It was deemed worthy of 13 different awards among universities in Turkey at the barrier-free university awards in 2020 and was the winner of the first prize.

It is the first state university in Turkey to have a tourism faculty with all departments accredited.
